The not-so-fierce but slightly bemused and very friendly Dekko monsters.
Not so long ago our friends at Mammoth commissioned me to create a set of monster characters to promote Dekko’s big summer sale. This was a FUN job. The media buy was huge and Martin, Emma and Barry appeared on billboards around every corner in Belfast which is all very exciting if you’re me. Here’s a few snaps of the Dekko monster team.

I don’t use Windows Vista.
Pete showed this to me late night and we must have watched it 5 times in a row. Its now the afternoon after the night before and the obsession still hasn’t passed. I told myself I wouldn’t post videos on my blog but this has to be the exception. I think my VJ ambitions have been resurrected in one night - oh dear!

I’ve been experimenting with lettering recently. I really admire accomplished lettering artists who make it look so easy and can write whole paragraphs in a perfect composition without fear of making mistakes and make it look like a work of art. Practice, practice practice methinks.

I was doing some monster characters for a billboard campaign today and this friendly chap was part of my sketches but he didn’t make the final cut. I love him though, I think he’s my fave. He looks like a Yannick.

A nod to my father-in-law, Victor, who provided us with the most useful of catchphrases. He doesn’t have a beard. Or wear a tall hat. Yup.

Cheese + tache = glee
This is a snippet of what I’ve been working on recently. Its part of the healthy living stuff that I’m working on for our classroom resource site which we’ll hopefully be launching soon. I’m having the best time doodling all day. Will post with a big fat link once the site is up and running …

This exotic lady doodle bloomed after a day of painting for a book I’m working on.

I made some felt birds for mother’s day. They’re a little bit useless and hang a bit wonkily but the mothers enjoyed them and I got an excuse to be crafty.

Look! My gorgeous Alli bag arrived in the post yesterday. Pete commissioned it for me for Christmas from our lovely chum Alli. I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time. Alli designed it specifically to carry my Powerbook which is great because its super soft on the straps which helps my tired shoulders and its super big and woolly so when I set it on my lap in the car it keeps my legs warm!
Alli and her hubbie Shane moved to Canada last year and we miss them muchly. Check out her blog and her Etsy site for brilliant present ideas.

Woo! My first Illustration Friday in a very very long time. Its a doodle while I was waiting for work to upload to Basecamp. Things have been so busy since November with work I’ve almost felt guilty even doodling. Good things are happening though and I’ll hopefully post some Atto/WeCanFly work up in a wee while.

Things have been so busy the past couple of weeks I haven’t had time to do my IF posts. I was so chuffed to get the Pick of the Week for Juggle though :)
This was a commission I did for a lovely chap whom I greatly admire. He helped me have confidence in my abilities and has done so much to help me realise the dream of creating the company I always wanted. He even became a client of ours which was the biggest seal of approval we could have. This illustration was a present to his expecting partner.

These are a couple of quick doodles for IF. Without input from from Karys and Pete I would have tentatively settled for the obvious answer. Small jugs should be called juggles from now on I think.
I thought I would put the obvious answer up anyway, she looked lonely.

I think weddings are great, especially if they’re your own. This was our wedding invite from one and a half years ago. I still love it because it brings back so many fond memories. We had so much fun designing our wedding. I used our pattern to paint huge banners to hang at the front of the church and we plastered the place with candles and lanterns. Everyone we knew helped us decorate the church the night before.

These are a couple of invites we’ve done for friends.

Karys and I did so much wedding stationary design for friends that one day we decided to go for it and form Henry Pancake.
Ralph was the weekend special at the wonderful Mojizu. Please swing by and give him a vote and help him get into the war :)
