I just got back from living in New York for the past 4 months! Here are my favourite places there:
KinoKuniya bookstore across from Bryant Park- Lots of neat Japanese import books and stationery and craft books and things! I spent so much money over there.
The museum of Natural History – My favourite New York museum. The hall of bio diversity is the best!
There is an awesome exhibit that runs till the 28th at the Brooklyn Children’s museum that it all about art from Golden books. There are some really nice pieces from some great books that were published in the 50′s! http://www.cmom.org/exhibits.html
Pearl Paint and Dick Blick are two pretty good art stores.
Giant Robot and Kid Robot are pretty neat too! And Beard Papa’s makes the BEST cream puffs. Home on 8th, and Excellent Dumpling are two of my favourite restaurants.

Also, be sure to get a subway map so you know where you are going! I loved taking the subway, so easy awesome! I wish Toronto had better transit
